In my final iteration of my copper birds, I chose a tiara as the platform because of its circular shape. Copper birds spring out on silver threads that bud from copper and silver petals. The circular depiction was important in part due to the construction method of using a continuous, forged silver rod with spicula as the base of the petals. It has narrative value as a means of depicting oneness by one’s provenance. Unlike the other murmurations that part ways or are on separate stems, these birds that fly side-by-side, come together again.

I wonder if migratory birds have any concept of what home is? At what point does the Geographic make up constitute a place: A region? A swath of trees? A point? This conundrum in it of itself seems so human - that I will split hairs indefinitely and fret over the idea of what home means. I split myself among many places, and at each place I am a different person who is in search of different needs and is fulfilled by different purposes. But the purity of simply existing between spaces is something admirable. I finally understand my own set of creations.
